Rashida Naomi Black is the Founder and Executive Director of the Myrtle Hart Society, Director of the Juniors/Youths division of the Chicago Music Association and harp faculty at the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute where she also teaches African American music history.

Rashida received her Master of Arts degree in Humanities from the University of Chicago. Her thesis was entitled “American Anomalies: 19th Century All-Black Orchestras.” She is a graduate of the New England Conservatory having studied with Ann Hobson Pilot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. During her summers, she studied with legendary harpists Lucile Lawrence at Tanglewood, and Alice Chalifoux in Camden, Maine. Rashida has performed with many orchestras throughout the country and toured internationally. In addition to classical, she has performed with hip hop artist Kanye West and gospel singer Donnie McClurkin. Rashida currently performs with jazz vocalist Dee Alexander as part of the Evolution Ensemble.
